Godxilla

The 11th Hour or as we referred to it "11" was just a reference to flipping someone the double bird... I know we were crass kids. Still we had momentum after we released "For The Love Of It." Couple public access television show appearances, couple local parties and boom we're on right? RIIIGHT.

We made this record off of a DR-5 and the stock sounds produced by eMagic's logic 2 and the Sound Blaster 64 card we had connected to it. I guess that's one thing that is never really said about what we accomplished. We didnt have anything. No money, barely any equipment and a dream.

Well guess who scored a new MPC 2000 and a Korg Triton... I did. I was like yo we can do better. Let's make some more songs cause these are cool but I want to make em sound better. That notion only sat well with me. This would mark the end of the core group. This coupled with my lack of desire to work with artists outside of the group was also a factor for Mr. Relentless as he was fast becoming friends with other artists.

These factors prompted Relentless to set out on his solo ventures and marked the end of the fab 4. Through the years there have been great collaborations between everyone involved but this marks the end of that full-time effort from the original group.

Other personnel in this LP included Diamon The Legend, Killa Joe, K-9 and a guy by the name of Bird. Never saw or heard much of Bird after this. I am sure that I am forgetting someone and you can feel free to remind me if youwere left out of the discussion.

Poltergeist signaled a change in the winds. When Relentless left I still made records but could care less about dropping them. My boy Kendrick Kiper got on my ass and was like drop that stuff homes. So I gathered up a bunch of stuff and created this LP.

The lead single "Spring" actually made top 5 at 5 on WNOV. We also became v100 jam for peace finalists to perform on the show. Then we started doing shoes in Chicago and sending demos out. We were looking for a record deal.

We put our best foot forward... Got a huge crew together and added a bunch of new homies to the situation. One big one to come out of this was Eddie Nygma. He has one of the craziest production ears that you will ever hear. He played keys on a lot of songs and produced one track on this LP. He would prove to be a monster on future records.

Mr. Relentless was only on one song and long gone, after this LP Nova would go to the Navy. The person who would do the heavy lifting on this LP with me was Tony Oz who then was called Tone Capone.

We had also fallen out with Diamond the Legend over him claiming an unfinished song as his new single on his voicemail answering service. For what it was worth we were way to hard on him over that. I am glad that 20 years later I see him all the time and were good. Music has always been something we were willing to live and die over. We didnt't have anything else worth dying over really. It became more of a matter of me developing love for humanity and this was an ugly spot in my memory. I am happy he is good.

This concludes the Story of the Ton Of Soul Empire. The span of these projects was 1998 - 2001. All these records were recorded at my mother's house on 78th and Silver Spring and the Green House on 72nd and Florist.
